The Story So Far
This page is for new players and old who would like to see just what's been going on in this city of endless night since the game opened. Each event just has a brief overview. For a more in-depth look, click the links provided to see log, network, and/or OOC posts pertaining to these events. Also note that nearly all log posts contain a link to the OOC plotting post for that event, so a link to said OOC post was not included here to save space.
NOVEMBER 25, 2011:
People begin arriving in the hospital's morgue in groups of three throughout the day. They find the city abandoned. [LINK]
DECEMBER 9, 2011:
All people in the city simultaneously experience a sharp headache, and when it recedes, the Second District has appeared. This is a park with a frozen lake. In the middle of the lake is a tree, which draws people towards it. Yet the closer a person gets, the more memories they lose, until those who get close enough to touch the tree have all their memories erased.[LINK]
DECEMBER 13, 2011:
Orbs glow beneath the surface of the frozen lake, and those who explore the area realize that breaking through the ice will release the orbs, which are the stolen memories of the populace. [LINK]
DECEMBER 28-31, 2011:
The holidays arrive in Abax, but not all the festive decorations are safe. From killer snowmen, to slowly strangling Christmas sweaters, Abaxians do not have a happy holiday season. [Note: this was a mini-event and had no catch-all log post.] [OOC LINK]
JANUARY 1, 2012:
There's an unnerving presence around the trains, and around this time, Shadows start to appear at various times throughout the city. [LINK]
JANUARY 9, 2012:
The populace awakes to find they are handcuffed to another, and they have to work together to figure out how to get the handcuffs off. One obstacle is that the handcuffs inject poison into those who forcibly try to remove them. A clue on how to remove the cuffs is anonymously sent via text message. JANUARY 28, 2012:
Amid a heavy storm of thunder and lightning, the Third District (the mall, Capax) opens. Abaxians rush in to explore and take supplies, but nothing in the city is ever easy... [LINK]
JANUARY 31, 2012:
A gas is released from the mall that spreads throughout the city. It effects people in various ways, including giving paranoia and hallucinations. What's more, the mall's mannequins come alive and begin attacking, intent on ripping people apart. [LINK]
FEBRUARY 2, 2012:
The shutoff valves for the gas are discovered and teams form to take down the mannequins while others get to the valves. Once the gas is shut off, the mannequins return to the mall to threaten any who come in after this event. [LINK] [LINK]
FEBRUARY 8, 2012:
A mysterious poem is pinned to the bulletin board in the train station with no explanation. Some see it as a warning of things to come. [LINK]
FEBRUARY 12-16, 2012:
Valentines and candy are sent out to the populace, but the messages on them are all creepy and weird. In addition to that, people are struck by Cupid's arrows and fall in love with one another, while eating the candy has all kinds of effects on people, such as hair turning pink, being unable to lie, or blurting out secrets, to name a few. FEBRUARY 18, 2012:
The Fourth District opens, this one a cultural district, filled with shops, a botanical garden, and most impressive of all: a museum. Abaxians must answer a sphinx statue's riddle before entering, and if the get the question wrong, have something taken from them. On entering the museum, people find a gallery of portraits, of every single inhabitant of Abax as their true self. [LINK]
FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 6, 2012:
Certain Abaxians wake up to find themselves de-aged and now the city is full of children/teens/young adults where once there were mainly adults and teens. [LINK] [LINK]
MARCH 15, 2012:
On the Ides of March, doubt begins to fill the hearts of the population, and some begin to turn on one another. Feelings of paranoia and betrayal grow until there are all out attacks and murders. [LINK]
APRIL 1, 2012:
A group assembles, intent on sending a message to whoever is in charge of the city. They do this by blowing up the mall. This action infuriates the mannequins, who pour out of the ruined mall to attack the populace. Once again, groups assemble to beat them back, and then the mannequins are gone. After twenty-fours hours when the mall is supposed to rebuild itself, there instead is no change. Instead, there is only a poem left as a clue. [LINK] [LINK] [LINK]
APRIL 6, 2012:
The mall still lies in ruin, and now static fills the air, rising in volume for nearly an hour, while the phones no longer work. Lights in the First and Second Districts flare until the lights in the park burst. And then the trains, always a fixture of the place, simply stop running. They've disappeared. When the phones begin to work again, an anonymous text message warns of dangers to come. [LINK]
APRIL 11, 2012:
The lights go out in Abax and feelings of despair well up. Both the lights and phones remain off for an hour. This coincides with the opening of the Fifth District, an area filled with apartment buildings. But there's someone else who has arrived too... [LINK]
APRIL 13, 2012:
A mysterious voice appears over the phones. [LINK]
APRIL 15, 2012:
The mystery is solved, as Byron, a man seemed to be formed from wire and electricity, offers to restore Capax... for a price. Others must offer him items, their memories, or even a life to bring back the mall and the necessary supplies it houses. [LINK]
APRIL 18, 2012:
Byron sends out a text message, telling people where to go to give their sacrifices. He briefly rebuilds the mall, just to prove he can, before letting it crumble again. He needs his sacrifices before he'll uphold his end of the bargain. [LINK]
APRIL 15-21, 2012:
Byron likes to play with the lights of the city, and throughout the week he randomly switches them off anywhere and everywhere. When this happens, feelings of absolute hopelessness and despair wash over people. Only those with very strong wills are able to resist, and they must pull others out of the darkness or they fade away and die. APRIL 30, 2012:
The trains return to Abax, and the Shadows lie still and silent. [LINK]
MAY 3-9, 2012:
A group gets together to blow up the train station, again trying to get the attention of whoever is holding them captive. This backfires, as those involved are tainted with an infection that rapidly spreads to others. This causes black goo to ooze out of orifices and leaves a person in extreme pain. By the 9th, the infection disappears. [Note: this was a player run plot and therefore had no catch-all log post] [OOC LINK]
MAY 10, 2012:
Those who were infected receive a vision of a mob, filled with hatred and carrying torches. A voice also says "Please. Stop." Those who weren't infected only hear the words and get the briefest glance at torch light. [LINK]
MAY 24, 2012:
There are shooting stars filling the sky, but the craters they make when they land bring monsters into Abax. These creatures have large glowing teeth and can climb walls to get in windows. Their intent is to rip people apart. [Note: this event had no catch-all log post.] [LINK] [OOC LINK]
JUNE 20-26, 2012:
Once the strange monsters from the sky were mostly all killed, the rest went into hiding, while the dead corpses began to decompose and produce beautiful glowing flowers in many colors. When the pollen from these flowers released into the air, it got into everything, including Abaxians' noses. The result was a variety of shifts in emotion, from feeling love, to guilt, jealousy, paranoia, and beyond. [LINK] [LINK]
JULY 9-11, 2012:
With the opening of a new district comes troubles. The Sixth District is a beach and ocean, with hotels and a casino (Byron's favorite hangout). But a sweet song of Sirens begins luring people into the water, and the spell can't be broken until the Sirens are killed. That's a bit of a challenge, however, as a Kraken offshore flings his tentacles at any who try to rescue their friends. [LINK] [LINK]
JULY 26-31, 2012:
Though Sirens were killed and people rescued, the Kraken is still lurking out there, and he makes a visit into the city as a flood comes through Abax, coming up to the roof of the tallest buildings. The Kraken and its Sirens swim in, but a clue is left in the form of a map and diving equipment. In diving down, people find valves to drain the water, as well as crates filled with weapons and burnt items. [LINK] [LINK]
AUGUST 19, 2012:
Byron officially opens the casino to the residents of Abax, and they learn that they can bet on bringing a store in Capax back temporarily, or can bet on bringing electricity back temporarily. [LINK] [OOC LINK]
AUGUST 29-31, 2012:
Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik accidentally opens a portal to Limbo, in which demons escape. In order to regain control of the situation, Magik needs her soulsword returned to her so she can close the portal. [LINK]
SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2012:
After the haunting screech of metal echoes through the city, a text message and a note written in haste appear. All they contain is a poem. A warning, perhaps, of things to come? [LINK]
SEPTEMBER 19-24, 2012:
The city is plunged into darkness, and citizens are grabbed at random, completely removed from the city when the lights come back on. The next day they return, but they aren't themselves anymore. Their friends must discover what's happened to them and how to get them back to normal again. [LINK] [LINK] [LINK]
SEPTEMBER 28, 2012:
Charles Xavier [AU] has problems controlling his psychic powers, and manages to broadcast other characters' memories out into the minds of many others. [LINK]
OCTOBER 14, 2012:
A mysterious message is sent out on the phones from an unknown entity, promising that answers to their questions are coming soon. [LINK]
OCTOBER 31, 2012:
Each resident receives two invitations to separate masquerade parties, two sets of fancy clothes, and two masks. One party will lead them to the casino, the other party to the newly opened 7th District and the country club therein. [LINK]
OCTOBER 31 - NOVEMBER 7, 2012
The parties begin, one consisting of deity masks and called the Creator party, and the other with animal masks, called the Creation party. Those who attend must wear a mask, but they find themselves taking on some personality traits of deities or animals for the entire week. At the Creator party, a mysterious entity made of Shadow is there to answer questions, while at the Creation party, Byron and Elaine wander around. [LINK] [LINK]
NOVEMBER 24 - 25, 2012
Capax starts shifting and rebuilding itself, but the building is warping in and out of this plane in a dangerous way. [LINK]
DECEMBER 16 - 22, 2012
The memory-stealing tree in the center of the lake tries drawing people in again to steal their memories, but when it's clear people won't be duped this time, the tree begins to move around the city, it's roots attacking people to take the memories by force. [LINK] [OOC LINK]
